As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The exhaust manifold is a critical component in an internal combustion engine, responsible for collecting and directing exhaust gases away from the engine. Understanding how the exhaust manifold works can help you appreciate its role in enhancing engine performance and efficiency.

Function and Operation of an Exhaust Manifold

  • Collection of Exhaust Gases

    • The primary function of the exhaust manifold is to collect exhaust gases from each cylinder of the engine. Each cylinder produces exhaust gases during the combustion process, and the manifold serves as a common collection point for these gases. Typically made of cast iron or stainless steel, the manifold has multiple passages, one for each cylinder, converging into a single outlet.

  • Channeling Exhaust Gases

    • Once collected, the exhaust manifold channels the exhaust gases into the exhaust pipe and through the exhaust system. This routing ensures that the gases are efficiently directed away from the engine, preventing them from re-entering the combustion chamber and maintaining optimal engine performance.

  • Heat Management

    • The exhaust manifold also plays a crucial role in managing the heat produced during combustion. By directing hot exhaust gases away from the engine, it helps prevent overheating and protects engine components from heat damage. Some manifolds are designed with heat shields to further manage and dissipate heat.

  • Reduction of Backpressure

    • Efficient design of the exhaust manifold helps reduce backpressure, which can negatively impact engine performance. Backpressure occurs when exhaust gases are restricted or forced to flow back into the engine. A well-designed manifold minimizes this effect, allowing the engine to expel exhaust gases smoothly and maintain efficient operation.

  • Improvement of Exhaust Flow

    • The exhaust manifold’s shape and design are optimized to improve the flow of exhaust gases. Some manifolds are designed with equal-length runners to ensure that exhaust gases from each cylinder arrive at the collector simultaneously, promoting smoother flow and reducing turbulence. This can lead to improved engine performance and fuel efficiency.

  • Support for Emission Control

    • Modern exhaust manifolds are often integrated with catalytic converters or oxygen sensors. These components help reduce harmful emissions by converting toxic gases into less harmful substances before they are released into the atmosphere. The manifold’s role in channeling gases efficiently supports the proper functioning of these emission control devices.

Maintaining the health of your exhaust manifold is crucial for ensuring optimal engine performance and emission control. Regular inspections and timely repairs can prevent issues such as leaks, cracks, and corrosion, which can compromise the manifold’s effectiveness.

In conclusion, the exhaust manifold works by collecting exhaust gases from each engine cylinder, channeling them through the exhaust system, managing heat, reducing backpressure, improving exhaust flow, and supporting emission control. Understanding these functions highlights the manifold’s importance in maintaining engine efficiency and performance. Regular maintenance and care of the exhaust manifold are essential for ensuring a smooth and efficient operation of your vehicle’s engine.

Common symptoms include visible cracks, exhaust leaks, ticking noises, or loss of exhaust pressure.

Yes, leaks from the manifold can reduce exhaust flow to the turbo and affect its operation.

Causes include extreme heat cycles, mounting stress, and uneven thermal expansion.

Yes, leaks may lead to loud exhaust sounds and potentially allow fumes into the vehicle.
