As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The International Navistar MaxxForce 13 and 11 engines, used in models from 2011 to 2015, are equipped with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) coolers that play a crucial role in reducing emissions. The OEM part number 2513445C91 refers to a specific EGR cooler designed for these engines. Understanding its components is essential for proper maintenance and repair.

Main Components of the EGR Cooler

The EGR cooler in the MaxxForce 13 and 11 engines includes several key components:

  • Core Tubes
    • These tubes allow exhaust gases to flow through while transferring heat to the coolant, reducing the temperature of the gases before they re-enter the engine.
  • Coolant Passages
    • Channels that direct coolant around the core tubes to absorb heat from the exhaust gases.
  • End Caps
    • Sealed ends of the cooler that ensure efficient flow of gases and coolant.
  • Gaskets and Seals
    • These ensure a tight fit between the cooler and the engine components, preventing leaks.
  • Mounting Brackets
    • Hardware used to secure the cooler in place within the engine compartment.

Benefits of a Functional EGR Cooler

  • Reduces Emissions
    • By cooling exhaust gases, the EGR cooler helps lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
  • Improves Engine Performance
    • Maintaining optimal temperature in the combustion chamber for efficient fuel burning.
  • Prevents Engine Knock
    • Lowering the temperature of recirculated exhaust gases can reduce the risk of engine knocking.

Signs of a Faulty EGR Cooler

  • Overheating Engine
    • A malfunctioning EGR cooler can lead to engine overheating.
  • Loss of Coolant
    • Leaks in the cooler can cause coolant loss.
  • White Smoke
    • A cracked cooler may allow coolant to enter the exhaust system, producing white smoke.

Regular maintenance of the EGR cooler is crucial for the longevity and performance of your International Navistar MaxxForce engine. At Tamerx Diesel Products, we offer high-quality OEM and remanufactured EGR coolers to ensure your engine runs smoothly and efficiently. The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler is an essential component of the engine's emission control system. It's responsible for reducing the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) produced by the engine. But as with any component, it can fail over time and require replacement. In this article, we'll discuss the signs that indicate you need to replace your EGR cooler.

  • Decreased Engine Performance
    • One of the most common signs that your EGR cooler needs replacement is decreased engine performance. The EGR system helps regulate the engine's temperature, and if the cooler is not functioning correctly, the engine may start to overheat. Overheating can cause a decrease in power and acceleration, resulting in a sluggish engine. If you notice this symptom, it's essential to have your EGR cooler checked by a professional mechanic.
  • Increased Emissions
    • The EGR system is responsible for reducing the amount of NOx emissions produced by the engine. If the EGR cooler is not functioning correctly, it can lead to an increase in emissions. You may notice that your vehicle is producing more smoke or emitting a foul odor. Additionally, a failed EGR cooler can cause your vehicle to fail emissions tests.
  • Coolant Leaks
    • The EGR cooler is connected to the engine's cooling system, and if it fails, it can cause coolant leaks. Coolant leaks can lead to engine overheating and potentially cause severe damage to the engine. If you notice coolant leaks, it's essential to have your vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic immediately.
  • Check Engine Light
    • The check engine light can come on for many reasons, including a failed EGR cooler. The EGR system is monitored by the vehicle's onboard computer, and if it detects a problem with the EGR cooler, it will trigger the check engine light. If your check engine light comes on, it's essential to have your vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic.

The EGR cooler is an essential component of the engine's emission control system. If it fails, it can lead to decreased engine performance, increased emissions, coolant leaks, and potentially severe engine damage. If you notice any of the signs mentioned above, it's essential to have your EGR cooler checked by a professional mechanic. They can diagnose the issue and recommend the necessary repairs or replacement.

Signs include coolant loss, white exhaust smoke, and higher than normal engine temperatures.

Yes, a leaking cooler can cause issues in the intake system or contaminate the engine with coolant.

Causes include coolant quality issues, excessive heat cycles, and internal corrosion.

Yes, coolant vapor or drips from the exhaust may point to a leaking EGR cooler.
