Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.
What is a Core Charge?
A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.
30 Day Core Charge Hold
You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler is a crucial component in diesel engines, designed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and improve fuel efficiency. When the EGR cooler fails, it can lead to a host of engine problems. In this blog, we will explore the common symptoms of a bad EGR cooler and why it's important to address these issues promptly.
The EGR cooler plays a vital role in managing your vehicle's emissions and maintaining engine efficiency. However, like any component, it can fail over time, leading to significant performance issues and potential engine damage. Recognizing the symptoms of a bad EGR cooler can help you take early action to prevent costly repairs and ensure your engine continues to run smoothly.
- Engine Overheating
- One of the primary symptoms of a failing EGR cooler is engine overheating. The EGR cooler's job is to lower the temperature of the exhaust gases before they are recirculated back into the engine. A malfunctioning cooler can't effectively reduce these temperatures, causing the engine to overheat.
- Loss of Coolant
- If you notice a significant drop in your vehicle's coolant levels without any visible leaks, it could indicate a bad EGR cooler. A damaged cooler can leak coolant into the exhaust system, leading to coolant depletion.
- White Smoke from Exhaust
- A faulty EGR cooler may allow coolant to enter the combustion chamber, resulting in white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. This is a clear sign that coolant is being burned along with the fuel.
- Check Engine Light
- Modern vehicles have sensors that detect abnormalities in the EGR system. A failing EGR cooler can trigger the check engine light, indicating that there is a problem that needs attention.
- Poor Engine Performance
- Reduced engine performance, such as decreased power and acceleration, can be a symptom of a malfunctioning EGR cooler. The engine may struggle to perform efficiently due to improper exhaust gas recirculation.
- Coolant Contamination
- Inspecting the coolant for contamination can reveal EGR cooler problems. If you find traces of exhaust gases or oil in the coolant, it likely indicates a failure in the EGR cooler.
- Increased Emissions
- A failing EGR cooler can lead to increased NOx emissions. This not only impacts your vehicle's environmental footprint but can also result in failing emissions tests.
In summary, recognizing the symptoms of a bad EGR cooler is crucial for maintaining your vehicle's performance and avoiding costly engine repairs. Symptoms such as engine overheating, loss of coolant, white smoke from the exhaust, check engine light, poor engine performance, coolant contamination, and increased emissions can all indicate a failing EGR cooler. Addressing these issues promptly through regular maintenance and professional diagnostics can help ensure your engine runs efficiently and remains environmentally compliant. If you suspect your EGR cooler is failing, seek professional assistance to diagnose and fix the problem before it leads to more significant issues.
The EGR cooler cools exhaust gases for recirculation, helping reduce emissions and improve engine efficiency.
Signs include white smoke from the exhaust, overheating, and unexplained coolant loss.
It is a direct-fit replacement designed to meet OEM specifications for 2004-2008 DT and HT engines.
Delaying replacement can cause engine overheating, reduced performance, and potential engine damage.
