As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.
What is a Core Charge?
A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.
30 Day Core Charge Hold
You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The fan clutch is a critical component in your vehicle's cooling system, ensuring that the engine operates within the optimal temperature range. Understanding how a fan clutch works can help you appreciate its role in maintaining engine performance and preventing overheating.
How a Fan Clutch Operates
The fan clutch is a thermostatic device that controls the engagement and disengagement of the engine cooling fan. Here’s how it works:
- Temperature Sensing
- The fan clutch is designed to sense the temperature of the air passing through the radiator. It contains a bimetallic strip or a temperature-sensitive spring that reacts to changes in temperature.
- Engagement at High Temperatures
- When the engine temperature rises, the bimetallic strip or spring expands. This expansion increases the clutch's engagement, causing the fan to spin faster and draw more air through the radiator, thus enhancing the cooling process.
- Disengagement at Lower Temperatures
- As the engine cools down, the bimetallic strip or spring contracts, reducing the clutch's engagement. This allows the fan to spin more slowly or even freewheel, reducing the load on the engine and improving fuel efficiency.
- Viscous Fluid
- Inside the fan clutch, there is a viscous fluid that helps control the fan speed. When the clutch engages, the fluid becomes more viscous, increasing the fan speed. When it disengages, the fluid's viscosity decreases, allowing the fan to slow down.
- Variable Speed Control
- The fan clutch provides variable speed control for the cooling fan, which means the fan speed can be adjusted based on the engine’s cooling needs. This variable control helps maintain a consistent engine temperature and prevents overheating.
- Mechanical vs. Electronic Clutches
- Mechanical fan clutches rely solely on temperature changes to engage or disengage, while electronic fan clutches use sensors and the vehicle’s computer system to provide more precise control over fan speed.
Benefits of a Fan Clutch
A well-functioning fan clutch offers several benefits for your vehicle:
- Efficient Cooling
- By adjusting the fan speed based on engine temperature, the fan clutch ensures efficient cooling without overworking the engine.
- Fuel Efficiency
- A fan clutch reduces the engine’s workload by disengaging the fan when full cooling is not needed, leading to better fuel economy.
- Reduced Wear and Tear
- By controlling the fan speed, the fan clutch reduces wear and tear on the fan and the engine, extending their lifespan.
- Quieter Operation
- When the fan is not fully engaged, it operates more quietly, reducing overall engine noise.
Maintenance Tips for Fan Clutches
To ensure your fan clutch operates efficiently, follow these maintenance tips:
- Regular Inspections
- Periodically inspect the fan clutch for signs of wear or damage, such as leaks, excessive play, or a seized clutch.
- Check for Overheating
- If your engine is overheating, it could be a sign of a failing fan clutch. Have it checked by a professional.
- Listen for Noises
- Unusual noises, such as roaring or whining from the fan area, can indicate a problem with the fan clutch.
- Replace as Needed
- Fan clutches wear out over time. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for replacement intervals to ensure reliable cooling performance.
Understanding how a fan clutch works and its role in your vehicle’s cooling system can help you maintain your engine's health and performance. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of the fan clutch can prevent overheating and improve fuel efficiency. Air leaks can prevent proper fan clutch engagement or disengagement, resulting in erratic cooling performance.
Bearing wear can lead to excessive noise, vibration, fan wobble, and eventual fan clutch failure.
By engaging the fan when needed, it helps prevent overheating, maintaining safe engine operating temperatures under various loads.
The fan clutch should be inspected during regular service intervals for leaks, unusual noise, and proper engagement.
